Honoring Transit Equity Day 2025.
First celebrated federally in 2023, Transit Equity Day is honored on Rosa Parks’ birthday, February 4th, each year to honor her work as a civil rights leader and on the ongoing work to make transportation more accessible & equitable.*
In 2025, co:census is co-hosting a special event convening practitioners to discuss transit equity in Boston, MA.
SPECIAL EVENT: February 4, 2025
This panel explores the future of transit equity through the lens of intersectionality, a framework coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw that examines how overlapping identities—such as race, gender, disability, and socioeconomic status—create unique experiences of inequality.
The discussion will focus on how to integrate principles of racial, gender, disability, and social justice into every aspect of transit planning, from equitable infrastructure development to inclusive community engagement in decision-making processes. Panelists will share actionable strategies to address systemic barriers and achieve long-term transit equity that works for everyone, particularly those at the intersections of multiple forms of marginalization.
We are co-hosting this special event led by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Your Transit Agency’s Priority.
Every $1 invested in transit systems can lead to $5 in economic output.
This powerful data point showcases the importance of transit to economic justice. Transit systems relate to workforce opportunities, options for healthy food and access to education. Since the implementation of Title VI, transit agencies have conducted studies and implemented new policies to ensure people, regardless of their income or the language they speak, can have access to low-cost fares and be an active part of public engagement.
